AC Day 5 "Hello darkness my old friend"

AnthroCon ended yesterday, I got up at 8:30Am this morning and started getting packed to leave. I left and drove for 4 hours to get home. Nothing new or special there, it's always taken at least 3 1/2 hours to get home. I have the pictures and vids to edit, and as soon as I'm done with that I'll post the link.

Pantherman

AC Day 4

Today, today was less than stellar. Got up and left for the Dealer's den and re-bid on some artwork, milled around for a little while and waited around till 2PM for the pickup. I paid for and picked up the art and helped another fur get his wall-sized pictures moved out to his car. I returned to my own car and loaded the artwork into it. I then returned to the David to attend a Charity/comedy thing that 2 and Uncle Kage were doing. I stayed at that till 4:30PM and left for the Dealer's den to pickup some more artwork from one of the tables. Unfortunately for me I had incorrectly remembered the time that the Dealer's den closed. It had closed by 4PM, since I have missed the Dealer's den I returned to the Westin and got supper. I then went to the David again for the Closing Ceremonies that started at 5:30 and lasted till 6:20PM.

After that I've milled around aimlessly around until now. Now I go to bed and wake up tomorrow to return home......

Pantherman

AC Day 3

Part 1:

Got up this morning with a small pang in my stomach, I evidently had not eaten enough yesterday as when I took a small sip from my pop it left for a few minutes. I drank the rest of the bottle and got my shower. One of my friends had already messanged me at that time that she was waiting in the Fayette room, for me to help her set up a event. I helped with that till 9:30AM and decided that I wanted something to eat at that time. I made sure that everything was ok with her and left for the brown bag and got a Chunky Ckicken sandwhich on wheat with lettuce and mayo.

After that I went to the David center and wait till a little after 10 to get in and check on some bids in the auction, after that I milled around the David for about an hout till it was time for the super-sponsor luncheon. After that the fursuit parade was going on, got video of all of it. Now I'm off to another panel on Sci-Fi writing and furry.

Pantherman

Part 2:

Well, I read the guide wrong and got in after the Sci-Fi writing panel, none the less I stayed till the end. After that I went back to the Artist's Alley and got outbid on most of the art pieces that I bid on in the mature gallery, if not all of them. Sunday I have to go back in at 2PM and see if there's anything that I did win the bid on, and if so, pay for it and take it out. After that I left and got supper, I'm waiting to go to 2's rant.

Pantherman

Part 3:

Got through 2's rant, pretty good as usual, I left there and tried to return to my hotel room but didn't want to wait in the long, long, long line. I stopped in on another event, but didn't stay there long. I checked my car afterwards to make sure that I hadn't left the light on and drained the battery. I haden't, so I returned to a rave dance that was in the David and hung around long enough to get some video then i was outta there. Whee, another 2AM entry, I'm tired and need sleep.

Pantherman

AC Day 2

Got up this morning and milled around mindlessly till 12 when I met up with a friend and agreed to pass out fliers for a meet and greet. Stuck around in the lobby till 12:10 waiting for a meet by that stairs that never came to be so I started milling around the artist's/dealer's den and met up with Mono again, we milled about in the Dealer's Den till we met up with his friend at about 1:10PM and decided to go out for lunch, after that Mono went back to his room as did I for a little, then after an hour I decided to go back to the Dealer's den to get my free AnthroCon t-shirt. I was in the lobby on the way back to my room to drop off my t-shirt when I saw shy.

We talked a little, then walked up to the 5th floor and got off, too many stairs for a big man like me. He took the elevator up to his floor I took the same elevator up to mine and met up with him in the "party" room after I put my t-shirt away in my room. I was at the party for about an hour when I had to get back to my room to check on a few things and rest a little as I wasn't feeling 100% well. I stayed in my room till 7:40 and left to get to Uncle Kage's "Story hour" at 8:30, met up with an old friend along the way and we conversed a little before the show. After the show I met up with another fur and we went to the Artists and Dealers reception that was being held for Sponsors and Super Sponsors. After we were told that they were closing, we decided to go to "Whose Lion is it anyway?" I stayed until 12 midnight, then returned to my room to start processing/working on the camera pics and vids.

Side note# Need more than 3-4 hours sleep and energy drinks will only get you so far

Pantherman

AC Day 1

Well, it's the 1st day of AnthroCon. Made it down here in the worst kind of drizzle-type rain that I've seen in some time, starting off at 5:40AM. And while I was coming down I performed a small experiment to see how much gas I could save. Now usually I'm speeding down the highway at 70MPH, however this time I followed the speed limit (most of the time) and never did anything over 65. This increased my trip time from 3 1/2 hours to 4 hours dead even, but it saved me an additional 1/4 of a tank of gas ontop of the 1/4 that I usually had after driving down to AnthroCon at 70MPH.

So I only used 1/2 a tank of gas getting down here, leaving a 1/2 tank of gas to get me home. I should note here that I like to have a small "buffer" in case anything happens, this year though instead of refilling it to the top, I'm only putting in another 1/4 of a tank, so I'll have 3/4 tank of gas. And if everything goes right and I don't get lost, I should have a 1/4 of a tank of gas when I get home.

Aside from that when I got here I registered with the front desk and got my room, but was notified that I couldn't pick up my pre-registration till 2. I ran into Shy and we conversed a little back at his room with a few of his friends from about 10:30 till 2 where everyone but Shy went to get pre-reg, he was getting his later as he was a dealer/artist and they get to pick theirs up at the table when they go to the Dealer's Den. While at the pre-reg pickup I ran into Mono and we conversed a little while walking back to the Westin. At the Westin I returned to Shy's room until it was time for supper, Rebel and his friends wanted to go to Subway for supper and I tagged along. There was a nursery school, the little kids there were going nuts over Rebel and his 2 friends that were in fursuit as they waved through the glass, also the guy that owned the SUbway gave them free drinks.

On the way back the kids where getting out of nursery school and eagerly ran up to the fursuiters to hold their hand and touch them. Afterwards we returned and conversed a little while long till about 10PM when I split off to download and crop the pictures that I had taken.

Pantherman

AC is here! I'm going to tomorrow morning, leaving at 5:30AM. The suit isn't going to be done till the 3rd. I hold out hope that I can still have it "overnighted" to the hotel to make it by the fursuit parade.

Pantherman

Memories of FCN 2009

It's been a week since I visited and since I'm almost done getting the video converted (pics I already posted to to my photobucket account) I thought that I'd take the time to write out a post about FCN 2009.

This was my 1st time to Furry Connection North (From here on referred to as FCN) and the only other con I've been to is AnthroCon, 1st off FCN is smaller with 727 people attending. That's not bad, I'd suggest FCN as a first con rather than AnthroCon like I did. That way it's less likely to be an "overload" on the 1st time con'er. The atmosphere was nice and not so noisy with plenty of panels to attend and a lounge for those who choose a sponsorship level.

I didn't attend all of the panels (as there are usually at least 2 happening at once, I dare anyone to attend all the panels :P) I visited the Fursuit Performance panel to see what I'll be getting myself into later, it was nice and informative with points, tips and hints on how to act with the audience that you have, in public and how to store a fursuit for longevity. The next panel I sat in on was the Automotive Furs on Sat at 10AM, it was a general discussion on cars/trucks and a bit of trains in general. Overall a nice panel to listen to as well as participate in.

Presenting furry to the public was the next panel that saturday at 1PM, it was hosted By Uncle Kage who I have known from AnthroCon. I enjoyed his brand of humor and satire on the subject but at the same time he did bring up some things that I have not thought of before. It was a well-spent hour of humor and information.

Next I milled around mindlessly till 4PM for the fursuit parade, AnthroCon, FCN or whatever furry con I LOVE the fursuit parade. Such a wonderful display of people with talent there, it was 159 strong at FCN and was a delight to have seen. I went into the Main Ballroom for the next event, BuckTown Tiger on the keyboard.

This was my 1st time seeing him live (I have seen the youtube videos) and I was happy that I didn't miss it, I just wish that I was able to record more than I did. If you ever get the chance to watch him, do so, you'll like it.

After BuckTown Tiger I milled around some more and had supper, then I milled around some more till Uncle Kage's story hour at 7PM. This was as usual a funny event. Uncle Kage's current story was how they had to smuggle him into Germany without anyone knowing till the event. This was more than funny with him using visual props and my favorite phrase "Verpiss dich!" those who saw this know what I'm talking about.

I stuck around for 2's performance in "2 the ranting gryphon" I like his style of humor, but like Uncle Kage's better. None the less it was a great performance by 2 and I enjoyed it. I returned Sunday afternoon at 12:30PM and again aimlessly wandered around till 1PM for the Greymuzzle panel which was basically a panel for those furs who were in the furry scene for a bit of time (mine being since 1993)we discussed the current furry fandom a bit and reminisced a little and that panel was over.

After that I went to the Fursuit Olympics event to watch, it was fun and funny. The fursuiters were put through such tasks as wrapping one member of the team (there were 4 teams of about 10-20 furs apiece) in the "Mummy wrap" event, the "Centipede walk" was another good one with one leg of a fursuiter tied to another in the team and they had to walk/crawl over to the other side before the opposing team did, "Musical Chairs" was another funny sport to watch them go through and "Red Wine White Wine (Red light green light) was also fun to watch. I attended the closing ceremonies for 1/2 an hour to an hour and left.

It probably would've gone better if I wasn't driving up and down every day, I.E. I'd seen more as I know there were still plenty of furs out and about every time I left. But I'm unemployed and it was cheaper to drive than to rent out a room for those 3 days, perhaps next year I'll have a job and can get a room.

Pantherman

Dreams

Things are strange, sometimes really strange. I recently had a dream and even by my standards this was weird. Now I have made it no secret that I am furry, I also play Fallout 3, quite allot recently. A few days back, i had this dream, there was this furry style party that I was at, that was in a burnt-out building ala Fallout 3. There were no costumes (I'd imagine that's because there's not enough fabric, or of the right color) the windows were gone, or parts of wall. The holes, where the windows would've been were covered with plastic, it was day and the rooms were all in ruination as well, there were about 30 of us that were in what I assume used to be the dining hall of the old hotel and we were discussing something. I don't remeber what it was and it only lasted what seemed a few minutes before I woke up.

Maybe it was just me over-reacting to the fact that I missed the Midwest FurFest. I really wanted to go to that, but missed out due to unemployment.

Pantherman

The Controversial Survey

Taken from a friend's LJ without consent.

1. Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey? Done.

2. Would you do meth if it was legal?
No.I did drugs once when I was a kid, morphine with goldrush in it, that fucked me up enough that I dumped it in the toilet when I got home and never even tried to touch any type of drug like that again.

3. Abortion: for or against it? For it, kinda. It's up to the woman who got pregnant in the 1st place, it's her life and she can do with it what she wants

4. Do you think the world would fail with a female president? No.

5. Do you believe in the death penalty? Yea, why not? Sure it's no deturent to the rest of the population, but I'm not actively against it.

6. Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already? Yes, "Mary Jane" should only be the beginning though, I think that all drugs should be legalized becasue:

1:) Making it illegal has for the most part, been ineffective.
2:) Makit it legal would cause the drug empire to fall, why pay someone when you can make it yourself?

7. Are you for or against premarital sex? Doesn't matter to me either way.

8. Do you believe in God? No; I believe that there may be something out there that we're not aware of yet, but it isn't some omnipotent being.

9. Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized? Yes.

10. Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA? I really don't care.

11. A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it? No.

12. Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen? Don't care.

13. Should the war in Iraq be called off? Yes.

14. Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree? Yes, the government only wants to keep us around longer to collect more taxes. There will always be a "gray" area as far as consent goes in such a case, but humans have no problem debating either side, or forcing other just as equally important issues on the rest of us.

15. Do you believe in spanking your children? I don't have any children, however I think that there is nothing wrong with it.

16. Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars? No, i have sense of pride.

17. Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama? Obama, McCain is just an all-out ass that wouldn't know what "change" was if it bit his nipples off.

18. Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers? No, I'm entitled to my opinion and I'm going to voice it. Those who are going to claim that they don't judge are obvious liars and trying to hide their true thoughts to be in consent in the rest of the group. I voice my opinions and I'm defiantly NOT afraid to do so.

Pantherman

AC '08 Day 5 -- Endgame

This is day 5, nothing really to talk about. The convention officially closed on Day4, yesterday. I got up at 8AM this morning, took care of everything and was just leaving at 9 when the cleaning lady arrived. I spent an hour in the lobby till 10 then left for home, but not before getting lost on the way out.

Nothing really happened on the way home and as soon as I'm done editing pictures from my trip I'll have the link posted here.

Pantherman

AC '08 Day 4

Welp, here it is the last day of AnthrCon '08. Got up this morning and wandered around the dealer's den for a little while and got a few more T-shirts. Hooked up with my friends in the dealer's den and went out for a bite to eat at lunch then went to a charit performance by 2 and Kage which I stayed at till 4:20PM when I realized that I needed to get some art from the artist's alley, i had 3 sucessful bids. I picked up the 3 pieces of art and walked back to my room where I stayed till approxamitly 7PM when I called the guys t see if there was anything that we were doing for supper, no one answered so I went out and got 2 subway sized pizza's from a local sandwhich/pizza joint and brought them back to my room. Around 9PM I started packing things up so that I can get going back home tomorrow.

Pantherman

AC '08 Day 3

Woke up this morning, checked my art bids and went to the Super sponsor luncheon. After that I returned to my hotel room to suit up for the fursuiter parade. The rest of the day is kind of a blur to me (Mix Vault, Dr pepper and Mountain Dew together and see what happens. Apparently for me that little burst of energy was also like passing a super-magnet over a floppy, erased). I do remember going to see 2 the ranting griffin, and the improv after that. I went to get supper at a place called "The Fish market restaurant" where I had a 16 OZ porter house, well done with beer-batter fried onions that made our local version look like infants. They were at least 3 inches tall and 1/8 in thick including the batter.

Anyhow, it's already a little into next morning and I'm heading off to bed soon. Here's hoping to winning a few bids.

Pantherman

AC '08 Day 2

Got up at 830 this morning and got a Chicken Parmesan cheese with marina sauce sandwich from the Brown Bag. I bumped around until noon where I went to the dealer's den, then I went to a panel on fur suiting which didn't tell me much of anything new. I went to the artwork auction and met up with my friends till 5 when we went to a restaurant and had supper. At 830 we went to see "Uncle Kage's story hour" where we got separated due to con-goers like me who had sponsor/super sponsor status, people with that badge got their pick of seats 1st and alot of front row seats were taken. After that I went and returned to my room to contemplate what else I was going to do for the night.

Pantherman

AC '08 Day 1

This was a most interesting day, as I had arrived at a later time than I had expected to. Didn't get into town until 1:30PM and didn't find a parking space till about 2 or so. This ended up being a garage about a mile away as both the hotel and David convention center had filled up. So I parked and came to get my room, only to find (after waiting 1/2 and hour in line) that my room wasn't done yet. I went up the escalators to get my Con badge and ran into some friends, we went out to lunch and conversed on a few things. After that I went back to get my Con badge while they went back up to their room. After a period of time I went down to the desk (at about 5PM) and got my room, after that I went and got my car and parked it at the David Convention Center (A few spaces had opened up) from there I took most of my stuff to my room then joined back up with my friends. We stayed there a little and conversed more until supper where we went to a Chinese buffet, after that we returned to their room and conversed some more. There isn't really anything that interests me that's going on today, so that's why we basically spent the day on catching up on lost time.

1990 Charcol grey Horizon. An eco-box just like my father's (all in all my family ended up with 3, 2 of them belonging to my old man and 1 to me). The thing that I found most impressive about it was that I accidently shifted it into Park at 40MPH when I hit a pothole coming home from work one day (I had the nasty habit of resting my hand on the shifter, where the selector button was). I put it in park, hoping that the tranny wasn't trashed, indeed it wasn't. I never had it looked at or repaired and I drove it the remainder of it's life with no trouble from it whatsoever.

Pantherman

Afterthoughts of AnthroCon

Well, here it is. Another year of AC is over with. Sunday was nice, I walked around a bit and took some more pictures. Got my Con Badge early that day and bought a few shirts. Waited around till about 5PM and went to the closing cermonies which lasted till 7PM. Left the room and headed back to mine till 11PM where I went to bed.

Today was pretty uneventful, got up and checked out by 8AM, left the hotel and got turned around for a little, finally got on the road (headed to where i needed to be) at around 8:30 and drove for nearly 3 1/2 hours back here when I arrived at 40 minutes before noon. I should mention that (becasue it was in my 1st post when i went to my 1st AnthroCon) that I told myself I wasn't going to cry about it, but I heard a song and I was allready a little upset about having to leave and well, that pushed me over the edge. So once again I left with tears in my eyes. Now I'll have to wait 353 days till the next AnthroCon.

Pantherman

Well, here it is night, the luncheon went over well, aside from me getting some of the wine merinaide on my shirt. I left it a little early at 12:30 instead of 1, I went over to the David Larence Center to look at the mature art and to bid on it. I initally bid on a Dark Natasha piece. After that I went back to my room where I stayed till about 5:45 PM where I went out to the art gallery again. I had been outbid on the Dark Natasha piece so I bid on a XianJaguar piece, I stayed there till the auction was over to assure that I would win that piece. I went back to my room where I messed around on the net till 6:30PM when I went back downstairs to get supper. I ate supper and waited for a phone call from a friend to come around 7, it didn't come so I waited till 8:45 when I went to see Uncle Kage in "The Uncle Kage Story hour" where I stayed for an hour. I then wandered back to my room where I have been since.

Pantherman
